Historic Downtown Snohomish Open House

This past Thursday was an annual event in our charming little town. It was the day that many of the shops in the historic business stay open late for shoppers and reveal their new window dressings for the winter season.

It is a special event in that the windows of these shops are covered in butcher paper the day before as shop keepers are busy creating magic in secrecy.  No one can see the dressing until this special day and special day it is.

As I strolled down the sidewalk, there were happy shoppers with bags in hand coming in and out of stores. Folks enjoyed warm cider, cookies and a pretty little cake pops in white fondant glistening with rock sugar on gold stems.  One shop had a trumpeter and keyboardist playing soft jazz which I enjoyed listening to quite a bit.

I picked up a fantastic metal star with a mirror in the center at Worthy. You might see hanging in the guest suite. It is a really nice retro piece that should add a little light and whimsy.

Blondie’s Consignment Shop had live mannequins wearing vintage outfits adorning their windows. They were a class act and displayed gorgeous dresses and accessories.

I also ducked into the Skip Rock Distillers for something to warm me up. I got to try their Spiced Apple Liqueur which was not only good but it was way better than I ever expected. Skip Rock has won multiple awards for their artisan distilled products. I am not a fan of sweet drinks. This liqueur is light on the sugar and has a crisp apple flavor. I bought a bottle for Brian and I to enjoy during the cold months.

Here’s to locally made night caps next to the fire, with my sweetheart.
